Curriculum Report

Lessons Learned

The most useful component of the externship was finding an application to enhance the development segment of the CADD curriculum. Through the sheet metal module of Solid Works, I was able to demonstrate the current industry standards and advance the students skills and knowledge.

The most challenging component of the externship was creating three different level projects for the students to work on. I always incorporate a beginning, intermediate and advanced level project for the classroom allowing the students to naturally progress.

The class was excited to use a new application within the Solid Works software. I was able to effectively teach the development concepts and apply them to sheet metal components with ease.

Impact on Student Learning

The students have been able to understand that learning is life long and can be very creative. I was able to have a student learn this module and apply the knowledge in the SkillsUSA national competition. He placed first in the nation and took home a gold medal for the state of Connecticut. Additionally, there are two students using the sheet metal module in a cooperative work study program through our school system.

The sheet metal module is available for all of the Technical High School CADD instructors to use. I have created copies of all the worksheets and theory support for their use on the state intranet.
